Our brand identity and studio name is inspired by one of nature’s most efficient pieces of architecture: the honeycomb. This hexagonal form maximises space efficiency by using a modular structure that fits together seamlessly, filling a large area with the least perimeter. To a bee, this results in storing more honey and spending less energy in building a structure to contain it; the exact kind of energy efficiency that we at Studio Hexar strive for.
We’re constantly on the lookout for recyclable and renewable materials to innovate construction methods that emit fewer greenhouse gases. By doing so, we hope to make sustainable architecture and renewable energy sources more accessible to everyone.
Malisha Kodituwakku Principal Architect - Studio Hexar
AIA(SL), RIBA, Int’l Assoc AIA, MArch (UWE)
With over 15 years of experience in the field of Architecture, Malisha received her Charter from the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects in 2014. This breadth of experience enabled her to become an international Chartered Member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), and she earned a Masters Degree in Architecture from the University of the West of England in the UK. An alumni of Ladies College, Colombo, Malisha also studied at the City School of Architecture in Sri Lanka.
Her main design ethos is to be responsible in how we build, with a focus on sensitivity to both the natural environment and the wellbeing of the user. Her work is not only experimental in terms of design, but also practical in terms of function. She believes that above all else, spaces should be beneficial to those that live within them.
Her work has received multiple awards at national and international level, the most notable of which include a Merit Award at SLIA Design Awards 2021, an Honorary Mention at the prestigious ARCASIA Awards 2020, and being named Winner of the sustainability category of Metal Architecture Awards (USA) in 2018.
